  • Perez – 95
  • Russell – 76
  • Hamilton – 66
  • Norris – 65

Quick Analysis

2023 saw a steady increase in the amount of overtakes despite maybe not feeling that way with Max Verstappens dominance. Midfield action really carried this season. This years overtaking totals are slightly flattered by an enormous outlier event which was the crazy record breaking Dutch GP. Without this race the season average 43 overtakes which is significantly less but still a respectable figure. Overtaking numbers have improved with the 2022 regulation changes but that doesn’t necessarily mean more entertaining racing. With 1 team and 1 driver being so dominant this season any set of regulations would struggle.

Thank you to everyone who has followed this project throughout this season. I put a lot of effort into making this data as accurate as possible and I appreciate all the positive feedback I get. This season saw a big change from simply posting the data to reddit to having a dedicated website. I’ve been a bit too busy in real life recently but hopefully over the winter I’ll be able to do some updates and improvements to the website as well as get a few additional posts written over the winter break. I fully intend to be back in March next year to do 2024’s overtaking data.
