The 2023 Singapore GP had 42 overtakes. 23 of these were shown in the live broadcast. Last year’s race had 16 overtakes, 2019 had 59 and 2018 had 13. The circuit average is 32. This is the first time Verstappen has been overtaken this season.

Quick Analysis

This is a fairly high total for Singapore comfortably above the circuit average of 32. The race played out fairly similarly to 2019 with the leading Ferrari’s driving slowly to keep the field compact which led to a large amount of overtakes between cars on very different tyre strategies. The changes to the circuit have probably helped overtaking as firstly the new T16 generates an additional overtaking opportunity. The changes also mean it is easier for cars to battle round the lap more effectively as battles are no longer broken up by a sequence of three tight chicanes.
