The 2023 Spanish GP had 65 overtakes, 42 of these were shown in the live broadcast. This is the most at Spain since 2013 which had 74. Last year’s race had 48 overtakes, 2021 had 51, 2020 had 32. The circuit average in the hybrid era is 35. The circuit record is 94 in 2011. The number of overtakes certainly do not mean a more entertaining race. It can indicate that overtaking is easier and mean more things are happening on track which has the potential to make a race more exciting.
